Training Works, and the Data Proves It

At Making Space we’ve partnered with companies like United Airlines, Salesforce, The Broad Museum, Red Bull, and others to deliver Disability Confidence Trainings to teams across industries, from aviation and hospitality to arts and entertainment, and beyond. To go beyond compliance, and create culture change.
Confidence Rises, Stigma Falls
On average, before our trainings, only about a third of participants feel confident talking about disability and accessibility. Afterward, that number jumps to more than half, and the share who feel very confident more than doubles.
Confidence to interview, hire, and support Disabled candidates grows just as dramatically, rising from about 4 in 10 before training to nearly 9 in 10 after.
Meanwhile, uncertainty plummets: neutral or unsure responses shrink from around 40% to just 7%, and the lowest-confidence group is nearly cut in half.
Psychological Safety Grows
Culture change is about trust. One of the strongest indicators we see is in self-disclosure.
With one employer, the share of participants who identified as Disabled increased by 17 percentage points after training. In another, disclosure nearly doubled.
When people feel safe enough to bring their full selves to work it’s proof that education is creating real psychological safety.
Why This Matters for Employers
Creating a disability-confident culture is a smart business decision:
- Compliance & Quotas: Many global companies operate in regions with disability hiring quotas or evolving accessibility regulations. Proactive training keeps teams ahead of compliance requirements and avoids costly penalties.
- Increased Productivity: When employees feel supported and included, they’re more engaged, productive, and innovative.
- Reduced Turnover: Inclusive cultures improve retention rates, saving organizations the significant costs associated with high turnover.
- Broader Talent Pool: Disabled professionals represent an untapped pipeline of skilled talent. Training helps hiring managers recognize and unlock that potential.
A 2023 Accenture study found that organizations prioritizing disability inclusion achieve 28% higher revenue, 2x net income, and 30% better profit margins compared to their peers.
From Compliance to Culture
These shifts show that Disability Confidence training equips teams with the skills and mindset to create culture-driven workplaces where inclusion sticks.
With the right education, confidence grows, stigma fades, turnover drops, and entire organizations perform better.

In today’s evolving workforce the companies that thrive are those that embrace difference. Neurodivergent workers whose brains process, learn, and communicate differently bring strengths that are often overlooked but incredibly valuable. Yet too many hiring processes and workplaces are still designed for a narrow definition of what it means to be a “good employee.”
